Drag racing is certainly in the blood of Clay Coughlin. The youngest son of multi-time champion Mike Coughlin, Clay has the lineage to be a champion himself.
But what often separates champions from regular racers is the determination to succeed. And even at his young age, Clay has that desire to win.
He scored a victory in his JEGS.com Junior Dragster for the first time in 2012, his first season as a driver. That win came not long after he turned 8 years old – which made him eligible to race in the class – showing plenty of natural talent.
His father Mike has helped teach him some of the nuances of drag racing, including the art of finish-line driving that is prevalent in bracket racing. His dad learned a lot as crew chief, too, guiding Clay in the intricacies of the sport.
Clay will continue his promising career in 2015 in his Junior Dragster.
