CODY COUGHLIN READY TO RACE IN THE “QUEEN CITY”

May 16, 2018

Coughlin continues the upward momentum into the Charlotte Motor Speedway

STATESVILLE, N.C. (May 16, 2018)—Cody Coughlin and the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado for GMS Racing make their way to the “Queen City” for this Friday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. Coughlin heads into the weekend propelled by the momentum of two impressive consecutive top-ten finishes.

Of Coughlin’s six NASCAR Camping World Truck Series top-ten finishes to date, five have occurred at intermediate-style tracks. In addition, two of the top-ten finishes happened recently, at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, as well as at Kansas Speedway on May 11, where Coughlin finished in the seventh-place.

This weekend marks Coughlin’s second Charlotte Motor Speedway appearance with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Delaware, Ohio, driver earned a starting position of 17th and a finishing position of 16th in 2017.

“Charlotte (Motor Speedway) is a tricky track,” Coughlin said. “While it looks like most of the mile-and-a-half tracks we go to, the track has its own challenges and characteristics.

“We had a good test at the Charlotte Motor Speedway at the beginning of the year, so I think we can pull from our good notes and go back strong. I’m looking forward to getting back there and I have high expectations for a good showing.”

Coughlin participated in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series open test at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on January 24 with GMS Racing.

“I have been going over the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series open test information over the last couple of days, so it is fresh in my mind,” Ryan Saloman, engineer for the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado, said. “The test at the Charlotte Motor Speedway was good. Our No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado was one of the fastest trucks at the test, and Cody had very consistent lap times. Throughout the test session, we made a lot of gains, and found the comfort-level and setup he would like after trying several different packages.”

Since entering the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2013, the Statesville, N.C.,-based GMS Racing team has logged 10 starts at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, resulting in two top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes, with an average starting position of 10.9 and an average finishing position of 13.8 with 23 laps led at the Concord, N.C.,-facility.

Jerry Baxter, crew chief for the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado, has two top-ten finishes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in six starts. In addition, he has one top-five and one top-ten finish in 13 NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) starts.

Coughlin has the continued guidance of Kevin Hamlin, the Cody Coughlin Racing team manager, and former Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) crew chief for Dale Earnhardt, has two top-five and five top-10 finishes at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Terry Cook, former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver and spotter for Coughlin, boasts three top-five and four top-10 finishes in seven starts at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. In addition, Cook has two starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) at the 1.5-mile track.
