John Coughlin
Taking heed of the lessons taught by his father, JEGS
Mail Order founder Jeg Coughlin Sr., John Coughlin is
equal parts businessman, family man and racer, and he’s
successful at all of them. The eldest of the four Coughlin
brothers, followed in his father’s footsteps and began
racing as a teenager. By the time he was 20, he had claimed
the first of his many victories, winning the Quick Rod
class at the 1984 IHRA Winternationals in Darlington,
S.C. Since the, Coughlin has visited the winner’s circle
countless times, including five NHRA national event victories
in a variety of classes including Pro Stock Truck, Super
Stock, and Super Gas.
In 1992, John made a strong bid for the NHRA National
Championship in Super Gas, eventually finishing second
in one of drag racing’s toughest sportsman eliminators.
Back-to-back North Central Division Super Gas championships
followed in 1994 and 1995 along with Lucas Oil Series
event victories at Indianapolis Raceway Park, Quaker City
Dragway and Houston Raceway Park.
In 1999 John made his professional debut in the short-lived
Pro Stock Truck class. Racing alongside his brother, Mike,
John appeared in one final round and scored a popular
win at his home event, the NHRA Springnationals in Columbus.
In three years of Pro Stock Truck racing, he compiled
a respectable 27-30 record in elimination rounds. By 2002,
John returned to Sportsman racing with a Super Stock Chevy
Cavalier and picked up where he left off, winning a Lucas
Oil Series divisional event in Columbus.

On Father’s day, 2003, John helped the Coughlin family
enjoy one of their best weekends at the races, winning
the Super Stock title at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals
in Columbus. The same weekend, his brother, Mike won the
Super Comp crown.

In early 2007, John debuted a pair of new race cars including
a B&B Race Cars built 2007 Chevy
Cobalt Super Stock entry and an Undercover Chassis dragster
for the new Top Dragster class. John went on to win four
Lucas Oil Series events and the North Central Division
Top Dragster champion. He also finished second in Super
Stock, capping the most successful season of his career.
John has also enjoyed considerable success as a car owner,
guiding his brother, Jeg., as well as close family friends
Anthony Bertozzi and Brad Plourd to victories behind the
wheel of JEGS Mail Order-backed entries. Former NHRA World
champs “Fast Jack” Beckman and Hugh Meeks III have also
enjoyed successful stints behind the wheel of John Coughlin-owned
race cars.
The same work ethic that has helped to make John a successful
racer has also allowed him to guide JEGS Mail Order through
an unprecedented period of growth. Serving as one of the
four company vice presidents, Coughlin along with his
brothers, Troy, Mike, and Jeg Jr., have positioned JEGS
as a recognized industry leader in aftermarket high performance
parts.
John and his wife, Diana, reside in Delaware, Ohio with
their two children, Cody and Kennedi.
