In any sport, how athletes perceive adversity often defines how successful they will become. For Cody Coughlin, after a challenging day of mechanical issues at the 39th Annual Rattler 250, he is already looking forward to the next race with his Team JEGS crew. The 19 year-old driver finished 21st in the Southern Super Series event at South Alabama Speedway in Opp, Alabama.
“It was a tough day for the entire Team JEGS crew, but we persevered through it and was hoping to make a run for a top 10 finish in the final 50 laps,” said Coughlin. “This is just the first race (Super Late Model) of a busy season for us. We will head back to the shop and get ready for our next race and go for the victory.”
The Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver worked his way up to 13th before his day ended with 50 laps to go in the 250-lap event.
The Delaware, Ohio native was an innocent victim of a big crash on lap two that included many of the top contenders of the race.
The team made repairs to the number-1 Super Late Model, but during the final competition caution with 50-laps to go his car would not re-fire.
The Team JEGS crew, which consists of Kevin Hamlin (Team Manager), Nick Easton (Crew Chief), Scott Wimmer (Spotter), and Dave Holt (crew-member), did everything they could to get the No. 1 JEGS.com Toyota Camry to the front of the field.
“They did a great job all day long,” Coughlin exclaimed. “We have proven before that we can overcome adversity and be stronger in the next race.”
The entire Coughlin family, which includes his parents, John & Di, and his sister Kennedi, who recently celebrated her birthday, were all in attendance on Sunday afternoon.
“It was great to have them there, especially on a day like this,” Coughlin said after the race. “I am very grateful for their love and support.
“I also have to praise God for keeping everyone safe in the race today. I am thankful for this continued blessings that he brings to everyone with our race team.”
Coughlin’s next event will be ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS 7-Up 100 on Saturday, April 11th at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio. That event will be televised with a live online broadcast through speed51.com and its 51 TV Network.
