After a short break, Cody Coughlin is ready to get back behind the wheel of his JEGS Chevrolet this Saturday night at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan.
The Delaware, Ohio driver is hoping to build on his point lead in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour standings.
“Our team is eager to get back behind the wheel this Saturday night Auto City Speedway. We ran well there last year and hoping to improve this year,” Coughlin said. “Of course, our big goal is to win, as well as to maintain the point lead.”
Coughlin currently holds a 15-point lead over Tom Woodin and an 18-point lead over Dan Leeck in the standings.
“We were able to gain points at Lucas Oil Raceway and hope to do gain more at Auto City Speedway,” Coughlin explained. “We will need to have a solid day with a good starting spot. Auto City is a unique track and it can be hard to pass. We are coming up on some favorable tracks for us and would be nice to have a bigger cushion. But we also realize that we will have to battle for it to the end and we simply can’t kick our feet up and relax.”
Coughlin and his Team JEGS visited Auto City Speedway earlier this week to get some testing in, but Mother Nature limited their time. But his team led by Team Manager Kevin Hamlin, Crew Chief Nick Easton, Chassis Consultant Freddie Query, Spotter Scott Wimmer and Crew Members Dave Holt, Jeremy Wilburt, and Tony Collier were able to get a few laps of practice.
“We hoped to get a full day of testing in but it rained for much of the day,” Coughlin said. “We were able to get on track and get some laps in, but we also know that we will have plenty of time on Saturday.”
Coughlin is optimistic about the upcoming JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour events.
“We are coming up on some tracks that we have had success at before,” Coughlin explained. “We have always run well at Winchester Speedway and at Owosso Speedway. The car felt great at Springport Motor Speedway earlier this year until that event was rained out. We are also eager to get back to Lucas Oil Raceway and have a better run.”
In between the two events, Coughlin has been staying active with his daily workouts, playing tennis, golf and enjoying time with his family.
“My mom and sister (Di and Kennedi) went to visit some relatives while dad (John) and I has some father/son time, which was great,” Coughlin said. “I am very blessed to have a great family, God has truly blessed us all.
“I know our entire family is eager to back to short track racing this weekend. We all look forward to meeting the fans and putting on a great show for them.
