Cody Coughlin cannot wait to get back behind the wheel this weekend as he looks forward to the challenge and speed that makes Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana, one of the famous short tracks in the nation and his favorite track to drive the No.1 JEGS Chevrolet around.
Winchester Speedway can be summed up in one word…intense. The high banks create the fast speed that thrills a driver behind the wheel and the fans in the stands. It makes a driver use quick reflexes and fans worry that if they blink, they may miss something exciting.
This fast half-mile oval is the next challenge for Cody and his Team JEGS crew. The JEGS oval track specialist holds a 25-point lead in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour standings heading into this Sunday’s event at fast high-banked half-mile oval.
Coughlin has competed at a variety of short tracks already this season. One style is the high-banked short tracks. Earlier this season, he won at Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana back on June 22. Salem Speedway is about as close to the same style of a track to what Winchester is famous for.
“We had an opportunity to test at Winchester Speedway on Tuesday and we felt we had a great test session,” Coughlin said. “The car felt fast and it was comfortable going around the high banks. I am really looking forward to this Sunday.”
The win back in June at Salem Speedway gave him the point lead in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. He hopes to add to his lead this weekend.
“Our goal is to get a bigger lead and wrap up the championship as soon as we can,” Coughlin said. “But we also realize that there is tough competition in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. Our team is ready for the challenge and we are excited about the good year we are having so far and look forward to the upcoming events.
Coughlin’s Team JEGS crew consists of Team Manager, Kevin Hamlin, Crew Chief Nick Easton, Chassis Consultant Freddie Query, Spotter Scott Wimmer and Crew Members Dave Holt, Jeremy Wilburt and Tony Collier.
“It would mean a lot to a win at a historic track like Winchester Speedway,” Coughlin exclaimed. “That will be our main focus this weekend. I ask God for safety for everyone as we fly around the fast half-mile oval.”
Coughlin is also eager to meet with the fans at Winchester this Sunday.
“We hope everyone gets a chance to stop by and say hello. We always have special treats for the fans and I enjoy signing autographs for them,” Coughlin said.
“Our entire family, which includes my parents John & Di, and my sister Kennedi also enjoy meeting with the fans. Our family is proud to be a part of the short track oval family.”
