The winds of change are about to blow through the Windy City as ARCA Racing Series rookie Cody Coughlin is eager to build on his superspeedway experience.
Coughlin will make his first visit Chicagoland Speedway in Joilet, Illinois in Saturday’s Ansell ActivArmr 150. The 18 year-old, Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver will once again be driving the No. 55 JEGS Toyota Camry prepared by Venturini Motorsports.
“It should be a good track for us,” said the Ohio native. “We had a good run at Pocono (Raceway, PA) and qualified well at Michigan (Int’l Speedway), so I think we are ready for a good weekend overall.”
Coughlin was the 2013 CRA JEGS All Stars Tour Pro Late Model champion and feels as though he is now getting more comfortable driving the heavier stock car in the ARCA Racing Series where he has recorded four top-ten finishes in six starts.
“We are really focusing on getting myself more comfortable inside the car,” Coughlin said. “This will also be my second race with my new crew chief Dave Leiner. At Winchester, we made progress in practice and were able to get a top ten finish. (7th overall). I can’t wait to see what we can do at Chicagoland.”
Coughlin explained that some of the adjustments include seat comfort and adjusting to the gas and brake pedal positioning to more of his liking.
Cody will once again have the great support of his family at Chicagoland Speedway with his parents, John & Di, and his sister Kennedi.
“This is a new venture for all of us this year racing in the ARCA Racing Series,” Coughlin said. “All of the other race teams and officials have welcomed us and we are enjoying going to compete at their events in 2014.
“I also have to thank God for the continuous blessings given to us. We are racing at new tracks, which can be challenging at times, but we know that he watching over us in our travels and on the track.”
Cody will be on track at Chicagoland Speedway this Friday, July 18th with practice from 3:30-5:20pm CDT. He will then be a part of an ARCA Racing Series drivers autograph session from 6:00-7:00pm. Please follow @TeamJEGS and @Cody_Coughlin on Twitter for the exact location.
