Cody Coughlin
ARCA/CRA Super Series
50th Annual Redbud 300
No. 1 JEGS.com Toyota Camry
The Race
The last time Cody Coughlin raced on the high-banked quarter-mile of Indiana’s Anderson Speedway, he won. That race was 100 laps. This time the Joe Gibbs Racing Development Driver will be going 300 laps in the 50th Annual Redbud 300. Coughlin has made just one prior start in the Redbud 300; that came in 2013 when he finished 20th after getting caught up in an early-race crash.
The Last Race
Coughlin is coming off of another top five finish this season. Coughlin finished third in the Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 at his home track of Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio on June 25th.
Coughlin was supposed to race at Michigan’s Dixie Motor Speedway on July 8, but that race was canceled due to rain.
The Crew
Cody Coughlin’s Team JEGS crew will be led by new crew chief Jack Smith. Since Smith came on board Coughlin has visited victory lane four times (three in the CRA Super Series and once in the JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour) and has finished in the top 10 in every start. Smith is joined by Kevin Hamlin (team manager), Scott Wimmer (spotter), and Dave Holt (crew member).
The Family
Cody is a third-generation race car driver. His family, including his father, John, has been successful in NHRA drag racing for decades. Cody, unlike his family predecessors, chose the path of circle-track racing rather than follow on the straight-line path set forth by the rest of his family. Cody’s mother, Di, and sister, Kennedi, attend Cody’s races in support of their favorite driver.
The Race Track
Anderson Speedway is a quarter-mile oval with close to 17-degrees of banking. The high banking leads to high speeds, even on such a small track. The facility first opened in 1948, and is the home of the Little 500 for non-winged Sprint Cars every Memorial Day weekend.
