There is a lot of optimism in the air whenever you talk to Cody Coughlin about the 2013 season, especially with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour opening its season this Sunday, April 28 at Springport Motor Speedway in Springport, MI.
Coughlin recently finished third in a Pro Late Model race at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, TN, just behind a pair of NASCAR veterans, including former Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin. Now he feels more than ready to bring his momentum into the 2013 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour season.
“I’m excited to get this season going to challenge for a championship,” the 17-year-old from Delaware, OH said. “We are off to a strong start this season; we already have a win at New Smyrna Speedway in February. With the exception of one race, we haven’t had a finish worse than third so far this year.”
Coughlin is looking forward to competing at Springport Motor Speedway this weekend as they recently tested at the 3/8-mile paved oval. “We thought the test went very well and it is a fun, tight little track,” Coughlin said. “I think the track will be a little tough on tires. With that in mind, our goal will be to qualify in the top-five and stay near the front and go all out at the end of the 100-lap event.”
With the momentum that his team has going into the season opener, Coughlin feels confident with their overall goals for the year.
“Our number one goal is a championship,” Coughlin exclaimed. “We also want to win a lot of races and be consistently be running in the top-five. We just want to be dominant all year long. I know I am blessed to be doing what I’m doing, and I know my faith will carry me through a strong season.”
Not only is that momentum helping, but Coughlin also has great support on his team to help him achieve his season long goals.
“Freddie Query (consultant) has helped me a lot as a driver and I have made gains with his advice. He has really done a lot to get us capable of running up front every week,” said the Ohio native.
“Nick Easton (crew chief) and the team have put together some awesome cars for me. Scott Wimmer has done a great job as my spotter and has a lot of insights. Bubba Pollard has become a great mentor to me and has really helped my growth behind the wheel. All the guys do such a great job and my family, including my dad (John), mom (Di) and sister (Kennedi), are always behind me 100-percent and that means a lot.”
