Cody Coughlin will make his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut from the eighth starting position Saturday afternoon in the ARCA Mobile 200. The 18-year-old Joe Gibbs Racing Development Driver set a lap time of 18.069-seconds in Friday's qualifying, putting him solidly among the top-10 qualifiers. Coughlin is now in prime position to make a run at a strong finish at Alabama's Mobile International Speedway with the No. 55 JEGS.com Toyota for Venturini Motorsports.
"I'm really happy with the way our qualifying run went," said Coughlin. "We weren't where we wanted to be on the practice time sheets because the car was pretty loose, but the guys did a great job of getting the car better for qualifying. It was a little on the tight side in qualifying, but the lap put us in a top-10 spot which is pretty good for our first qualifying effort as a team.
"I'm blessed to have this opportunity to work with my crew chief Jeff McClure and the Venturini Motorsports guys. I'm excited to put the car at the front in tomorrow's race. There will be a learning curve for me, but I know we can put our best effort together and run well."
The ARCA Mobile 200 will take the green flag Saturday at 2pm CT at Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, Alabama. Race fans in the area can meet Coughlin during an on-track autograph session beginning at noon CT.
