The last time Cody Coughlin raced at Winchester Speedway in a Super Late Model was last October’s famed Winchester 400, where he finished seventh.  He is eager to return to the fast, high-banked half-mile this weekend for the Winchester 100 ARCA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS event.

“Winchester Speedway is one of my favorite tracks, there is nothing I dislike about the place,” Coughlin said.  “We have had some good runs there and I am looking forward to racing there on Labor Day.

Over the last year, Coughlin has competed at Winchester Speedway in an ARCA Racing Series car, ARCA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS car and JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour car.  He has a top-ten finish in each of the series with his best being a second place finish in his JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour car last summer.

It was also at Winchester Speedway where he wrapped up the 2013 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship last October.

“It is a high speed, intense yet deceiving track.  The key thing is to be careful and stay on the wheel because things do happen fast there.  It is tough which makes it a fun place to race.”

Coughlin is hoping to improve on his seventh place finish in last year’s 400-lap event.  But this Monday’s event is only 100 laps and will serve as a good tune-up for the 400 on Sunday, October 12th.

Last month, Coughlin made his first visit of 2014 at Winchester Speedway driving the JEGS No. 55 Toyota Camry in the ARCA Racing Series event for Venturini Motorsports.  He also finished seventh in that event.

“We will be racing our Super Late Model on Monday which produces some great horsepower around the high banks,” Coughlin explained.  “With that power, you can pass cars and work your way to the front.  For this 100-lap race, it will be a fast race where starting up front will be beneficial.  You will have a good shot if you start in the top 12 and have a better shot starting up in the top five.  There will be some strong competition at this race.”

The Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver will be joined at Winchester with his Team JEGS crew that includes Team Manager Kevin Hamlin, Crew Chief Nick Easton, Spotter Scott Wimmer and crewmember Dave Holt.  The same team that helped him wrap up the 2013 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship at Winchester Speedway last October.

“We had a good outing a few weeks ago at Auto City Speedway and came back with a strong top-10 run after getting a flat tire late in the race,” Coughlin said. “I have a solid crew that will be ready for this weekend.”

Cody will also have the support of his family this weekend, which includes his parents, John & Di and his sister Kennedi.

“My parents continue to be very supportive with my racing career and always keep me motivated at each race event,” Coughlin said.  “No matter if it’s an ARCA Racing Series event or a Super Late Model race, they always give the best encouragement when I get behind the wheel.

“I also have to thank God for the blessings I continue to receive.  We have been challenged, but we always come out ahead with either a strong finish or learning something that will be key for the next race.”

Coughlin will be on track this Sunday, August 31 with qualifying at 3:30pm ET.  The Winchester 100 will be the second of four feature races on Monday, September 1st starting at 1pm ET.1
