“It’s quite an honor,” Coughlin said. “I’ve never even contemplated being inducted in any Hall of Fame, but it’s a really neat deal and I can’t thank the nominating committee, the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, and Superintendent David Axner enough.
“The work the Dublin City Schools Alumni Association does for the community should be commended and we’ve all seen how the Dublin Education Foundation has positively impacted students throughout the school district. I’m very proud to have gone to Dublin High.”
Aside from drag racing whenever his studies allowed, Coughlin played Lacrosse when he attended Dublin High School and was nominated captain of the team in his senior year, leading his squad in scoring.
Since graduating Dublin High and Ashland University, Coughlin has collected five world championships and 63 career national event victories in NHRA competition.
Together with his three brothers, he owns and operates JEGS High Performance, a Delaware, Ohio-based mail order company started by Jeg Coughlin Sr. in downtown Columbus in 1960. The family-owned business is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010.
The Coughlin family also established the JEGS Foundation “Racing for Cancer Research” program and has donated millions of dollars to the James Cancer Center at Ohio State University, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children.
Coughlin’s fellow Class of 2010 Hall of Fame inductees include Eugene Bulgozdy, Lt. Col. James Camp, Kevin Foley, Bill Grafflin, Barbara “Rose” Headlee, Herbert W. Jones, Dr. Henry Karrer, Tom McNutt, Ed Putnoky, Jordan “Rich” Rose, and Kip Witchey.
