BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (May 6) — A hard day’s work has yielded a No. 3 qualifying effort for Pro Street driver Troy Coughlin. The vaunted professional from Delaware, Ohio, posted a perfect 6.601-second pass at 213.66 mph to secure a spot in the field of the fifth annual NOS NMCA Hot Rod & Muscle Car Nationals at Beech Bend Raceway.

As usual, Coughlin’s powerful ’04 JEG’S Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier is a picture of consistency, running three nearly identical passes in the low 6.6-second range. He will enter race day action at the second of seven National Muscle Car Association Pro Edelbrock Series events as one of the favorites in the Denso Spark Plugs Pro Street category.

“Everything is looking pretty good, I must admit,” Coughlin said. “The JEG’S car is running very strong right now and I have a feeling that if we can make it through race day without any mistakes, we have a great shot at winning this event.”

Coughlin finished in the quarterfinals of the season opener and enters Sunday in the No. 5 position overall. He knows a win in Kentucky could vault him into the point lead.

“We know we’re capable of beating the other cars here,” Coughlin said. “There’s a chance we’ll have a first-round bye tomorrow so if that’s the case we’re already one round ahead of schedule. But I know I won’t be happy, and neither will the guys, if we don’t make a run to the finals.

“The weather looks great for tomorrow and the track is in perfect shape. It should be a good day for JEG’S Racing. I wish we could get started right now.”

Eliminations begin at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. For more information on the JEG’S Mail Order race team, please visit For additional information on this event and the entire NMCA Pro Edelbrock series, visit
