The flat half-mile oval of Martinsville Speedway in Virginia is challenging enough when your truck is handling perfectly. An ill-handling truck makes for a very long day, and that is what Cody Coughlin had to fight through on Saturday in the Texas Roadhouse 200 for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Coughlin’s day began with a 20th-place qualifying effort. 20th-place would also be where Coughlin would finish.
The 21-year-old from Delaware, Ohio battled a truck that was extremely tight in the center of the corner and also extremely loose on exit of the corner. Coughlin was forced to battle all day long to get the best finish possible given the conditions.
“We were way too tight all day long in the center and by the end of it we were too free on exit too. We fought hard and didn’t give up, which is a positive. We had a really nice pink truck this weekend and we were racing for a good cause for cancer awareness through the JEGS Foundation. I was hoping to put it up front, but we were just too tight. But I have to thank my guys at ThorSport Racing for battling hard with me all weekend, and Duke and Rhonda Thorson for allowing me to race their trucks. Now we’ll go to Texas, which is a super fast track and we’ll see what we can do there.”
Coughlin’s next race is in less than a week at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has just three races remaining in the 2017 season including next week’s race in Texas.
