Lynyrd Skynyrd’s hit song “Coming Home” could be Cody Coughlin’s racing mantra this weekend. After races in Florida, Alabama and Tennessee, Cody Coughlin is more than thrilled to race in his home-state of Ohio for the first time this year at the 7-Up 200 at Toledo Speedway on Saturday for the ARCA / CRA Super Series.
“I can’t wait to get on track at Toledo this weekend,” said Coughlin. “I like Toledo a lot. It’s one of the first places I ever raced at, and of course it’s in Ohio so that makes it a lot of fun as well with the family and friends we are able to spend time with.”
The 20-year-old driver can expect to have a lot of family and friends in attendance on Saturday with the fast half-mile being just a couple of hours north his home of Delaware, Ohio.
Coughlin will look to put on a show in front of everyone on Saturday, similar to how he did one year ago. He started on the pole and led the first 25 laps of the race before finishing eighth.
Toledo Speedway has 13-degrees of banking in the corners and is a wide half-mile speedplant. It’s the type of track that Coughlin always seems to excel at, and after the success he and his Team JEGS crew had last weekend at the Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville (TN), a fairly similar track, Coughlin expects to excel again this weekend.
“I think we made really good gains last weekend in Nashville,” said Coughlin. “I think we have some good momentum on our side, so with the hard work we are putting in, and the good Lord keeping us safe, we will definitely be contending for a win at the end of 100 laps on Saturday.
“I just can’t thank everyone enough for all of their hard work. My new crew chief, Jack Smith, was awesome last weekend in Nashville. He worked really well with Kevin Hamlin (team manager), Scott (Wimmer, spotter) and Dave (Holt,, crew-member) and that’s why we saw improvement. I’m looking forward to having my mom (Di), dad (john), Kennedi (sister) and other members of my family at Toledo this weekend.”
Cody Coughlin hits the track for the first time this weekend on Friday, April 15 for open practice from 3-7 p.m. ET. Then it’s race day on Saturday, April 16. The day will kick-off with a one hour practice session at 10 a.m., followed by qualifying at 1 p.m. Racing will begin at 3 p.m.
