BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 20) — Five-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. will fill his brief off time from the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series by competing in this weekend’s inaugural K&N Filters Spring Fling 20’s presented by Sparco
at legendary Bristol Dragway. JEGS Mail Order is sponsoring Saturday and Sunday’s action.

Racing his JEGS.com Chevy II wagon and JEGS.com dragster, Coughlin will have two chances to win each of the high-dollar races scheduled throughout the four-day event. Race organizers Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel, two of the top sportsman drivers in the country, have posted $10,000 for Thursday’s race winner and $20,000 for the victor of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday’s races, meaning a sweep would be worth $70,000.

“Pete and Kyle have put together what looks to be a whale of an event,” said Coughlin, the 1992 Super Gas champion who has 62 national event wins to his credit. “I’m excited to get there and race see a lot of my bracket racing friends.

“With as much money as they’ve posted, I’m sure all the heavy hitters will be there so the racing should be exceptional. We’ll try hard to represent JEGS well. My brothers and I all enjoy sportsman racing and it doesn’t get any better than an event like this. I still bracket race whenever I get the chance so hopefully I’ll fall into a rhythm and win some rounds.”

In addition to the regular daily races, there will be a $500-to-enter, winner-take-all “King of the Mountain” gambler shootout Saturday morning. The event will feature of two separate races, one for door cars and one for dragsters, with the winners of each category going head-to-head for the honor of “King of the Mountain.”

“Considering the racers scheduled to be there, whoever ends up as ‘King of the Mountain’ will have accomplished something very special,” Coughlin said. “I know I would rank it very high on my list if I’m lucky enough to get it done.”

The 39-year-old Coughlin is no stranger to sportsman success. He has won at the famed Moroso 5-Day Championship in 2006, 2003 and 1993 and claimed Division 3 titles in Super Stock (1994 and 1997), Competition Eliminator (1997), and Super Gas (1992). He’s also won the JEGS U.S. Open Championship (2006 and 2008), the Hemi Shootout (2006), the Moroso Race of Champions (2006), the AA Auto Salvage Superbucks event (2006), and the Top Gun Challenge (2006), among many others.

All racing at this weekend’s event will be contested to 1,000 feet.
