Cody Coughlin has a chance to do something that nobody has ever done; win both the CRA Super Series (Super Late Model) and CRA / JEGS All-Star Tour (Pro Late Model) titles in the same year.  The Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver is currently the point leader in each of those series.

Coughlin was scheduled to compete for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Gateway Int’l Speedway (MO) this Saturday, June 25th.  The CRA Super Series has an event scheduled for the same day.  After discussing the weekend itinerary, KBM, JGR and Cody have agreed that he will concentrate on his quest for a pair of Late Models championships and not compete in the NCWTS event at Gateway.

“We’ve really picked up a lot of momentum recently and winning championships in both series would be an honor,” said Coughlin, who has won four Late Model events in 2016, three with the CRA Super Series and one on the CRA / JEGS All-Stars Tour.  “When we began the season we didn’t plan on competing full-time in both series, but with our success and with the blessing of both KBM and JGR, we have decided to challenge for the titles.  I am thankful for the cooperation from everyone to allow me to do this and I am looking forward to racing with KBM in several NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races throughout the remainder of the year.”

“Cody has really performed well in the Late Model events this year and we’re really excited for him to go after both of these championships,” said Kevin “Bono” Manion, crew chief of the No. 51 Toyota Tundra for KBM.  “We’re looking forward to working with Cody and going after some good finishes with our Truck program in a bunch of races the rest of the year.  In the meantime, we hope he picks up another win this weekend.”

Coughlin’s next NCWTS race will come at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH on Wednesday, July 20.

Cody and crew from Team JEGS will compete at his home track of Columbus Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 25, in the Bud St. Amant Memorial 125.
