POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 14) — Four-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. will begin his quest for a seventh victory at Pomona Raceway from the No. 14 qualifying position after posting a best run of 6.620 seconds at 208.68 mph in Saturday’s time trials.

Coughlin, a seven-time winner this season in his JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt, won at this venue twice in 1999, and once more in 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2007. Three of his Pomona victories came during previous runnings of this weekend’s 45th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.

“We have struggled here in Pomona to get the car to go straight”, said Coughlin. “Something in the car is just not happy and it shows in our performance lately. My dad (Jeg Sr) and Roy Simmons will be looking over all of the data to determine what set up to put in the car for tomorrow. I have a lot of faith in my team and know that we are capable of running much better then we have been.”

Coughlin will open eliminations opposite Jason Line, who qualified 4th with a 6.587 at 209.49 mph.

“Our goal coming into this race was to win the event and finish the season on a high note”, Coughlin explained. “If the car can go straight for the first 80-feet tomorrow in round one we will have a car that is going to win rounds.”

Eliminations begin at 11 a.m. with Pro Stock slated for noon.
