Major life changes are happening for Jeg Coughlin III, the son of six-time world champion drag racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. and grandson of Hall-of-Famer Jeg Coughlin Sr., the founder of high-performance-parts giant JEGS Automotive.
Jeg III will soon complete his studies in finance at Ohio State University and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Resource Management, a milestone moment for any young person. His plans then call for a concerted effort to flesh out his burgeoning professional golfing career with qualifying school attempts, most likely on the European Tour.
As methodical as his father, Jeg III plans to chase his golfing dream for at least half a decade with the ultimate goal of competing in the PGA Tour.
Considering his golfing career to date, Jeg III certainly has a solid chance to achieve this objective. In 2013, he won the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III golf championship, which undoubtedly helped him earn a golf scholarship to Ohio State University. In his first two years of college, Jeg III excelled both on and off the course, finishing in the top 10 in the 2018 Big 10 Championship and earning OSU Scholar-athlete honors in 2017 and 2018, and Academic All-Big 10 accolades in 2018.
Wishing to take a break from the sport around the time his college career reached its midway point, Jeg III immersed himself in the family business, methodically making his way through each department to learn how things worked in the real world.
Armed with that experience, Jeg III has attacked his final few semesters at OSU while also realizing his love for the unique, personal competition golf offers as something he feels compelled to chase.
