AC Delco Las Vegas Nationals
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Richmond, Va.
Oct. 30 – Nov. 2

>>>Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin won the Pro Stock title at the inaugural Las Vegas event in 2000 Richmond race. After qualifying third, he defeated Warren Johnson in the final round.

>>>Coughlin also recorded Las Vegas victories in 2001 and 2002. In 2001, he qualified No. 10 and beat Jim Yates in the final. In 2002, he qualified fifth and defeated Warren Johnson.

>>>In addition to his three wins, Coughlin also has two runner-up finishes at the Las Vegas Strip. Both of them came in 2007 at the spring and fall events.

>>>In 15 career appearances at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Jeg has a 27-11 round win record in Pro Stock competition.

>>>In 21 events this season, Jeg has two wins, five runner-ups, and five semifinal finishes to his credit. His round win record is 39-19. He has also reached the final round in four of the last eight races.

>>>Jeg will enter the Las Vegas event as the top seed in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs. He is 74 points ahead of second place Kurt Johnson and 77 points in front of third ranked Dave Connolly. If Jeg can extend his lead to 118 points, he will clinch the 2008 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock title. If he leaves Las Vegas with a lead of 87 or more points, he will need only to qualify at the final event in Pomona, Calif., in order to clinch the title.

>>>During his career, Jeg has appeared in 85 final rounds, 67 as a professional and 18 as a sportsman racer.

>>>Jeg has qualified in the top half of the Pro Stock field eight times in 15 races in Las Vegas including the 2007 race, where he was the low qualifier. His average qualifying position in Las Vegas is seventh.

>>>With 40 Pro Stock wins, Jeg is the fourth most successful driver in the history of the class. He trails only Warren Johnson (96), Bob Glidden (85), and Greg Anderson (56) in wins.

>>>Jeg has qualified No. 1, 14 times in his career. In 22 races this year, Jeg has started from the top half of the Pro Stock field 14 times.

>>>Jeg has won at least one NHRA national event title at 21 different facilities. He has won at every current venue on the tour except for Norwalk and the new z-Max Dragway in Charlotte, which have hosted just three events.

>>>After qualifying No. 2 at the most recent event in Richmond, Va., Jeg is currently ranked fourth in the standings for the K&N Horsepower Challenge, a special $50,000 to win Pro Stock event that is held each year in Norwalk. Drivers qualify for the elite 8-car K&N Horsepower Challenge field by earning points during qualifying for each of the previous 23 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events.

>>>As the reigning NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion, Jeg Coughlin was honored earlier this year with a special edition gaming chip issued by the Palms Hotel and Casino that featured his JEGS Mail Order Cobalt. He is one of just a handful of NHRA racers who have received such an honor.

>>>In addition to his three Pro Stock victories, Jeg has also had success racing in the annual Thanksgiving Bracket Nationals, a special event for sportsman racers that is held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway each November. Last year, the versatile Coughlin turned in several late-round finishes in the multi-day event behind the wheel of his JEGS.com dragster.
