Pomona, Calif.

>>>Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin Jr. is the current NHRA POWERade points leader in the Pro Stock class. He has a 123-point lead over second-place Greg Anderson, meaning he needs only to qualify for this weekend’s event to officially secure his fourth career Pro Stock championship and fifth overall title.

>>>Last year, Jeg officially clinched the POWERade championship on the last day of the season with a second-round victory over Justin Humphreys. He defeated second-place Greg Anderson by just 44 points.

>>>Jeg has won six Pro Stock titles in Pomona during his career. He won both the spring and fall events in 1999, and also claimed victories in 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2007. In addition to his six wins, Jeg has four runner-up finishes in Pomona.

>>>During his career, Jeg has appeared in 86 final rounds, 68 as a professional and 18 as a sportsman racer.

>>>In 22 career appearances at the Auto Club Dragway at Pomona, Jeg has a 44-15 elimination-round record in Pro Stock competition.

>>>With 41 Pro Stock wins, Jeg is the fourth most successful driver in the history of the class. He trails only Warren Johnson (96), Bob Glidden (85), and Greg Anderson (56) in wins.

>>>Jeg has won at least one NHRA national event title at 21 different facilities. He has won at every current venue on the tour except for Norwalk and the new z-Max Dragway in Charlotte, which have hosted just three events.

>>>In 23 events this season, Jeg has three wins, five runner-ups, and five semifinal finishes to his credit. His round win record is 43-19, the best in the class. He has also reached at least the final round in four of the last eight races.

>>>Jeg has never been ranked lower than fourth at any point during the 2008 season. He took over the lead following his runner-up finish in Dallas and has maintained it for the last four races during the Countdown to the Championship.

>>>Jeg has qualified in the top half of the Pro Stock field 15 times in 22 races in Pomona including the 2000 Finals, where he was the low qualifier. His average qualifying position in Pomona is sixth.

>>>After qualifying No. 1 at the most recent event in Las Vegas., Jeg is currently ranked third in the standings for the K&N Horsepower Challenge, a special $50,000 to win Pro Stock event that is held each year in Norwalk. Drivers qualify for the elite 8-car K&N Horsepower Challenge field by earning points during qualifying for each of the previous 23 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events.

>>>As a sportsman racer, Jeg also appeared in a final round in Pomona in the Super Stock class in 1995, earning a runner-up finish against former World Champion John Calvert.
