Team JEG’S – Sportsman / Super Stock
Jeg Coughlin, Jr

Jeg Coughlin Jr will compete in Pro Stock and Super Stock again this year at the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals this week at Gateway Internationals Raceway. He will return as the defending champion in Super Stock.

The 34-year old second generation driver is the only driver in NHRA history to win in four separate competition classes in a single season. The historic accomplishment occurred in 1997 winning in Super Stock, Competition Eliminator, Super Gas and Pro Stock.

Jeg will pilot the JEG’S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier that his oldest brother John Coughlin drives in Super Stock C-Modified. John decided at the last minute to sit out the event to stay home and support his son Cody and his baseball efforts.

“I have three more national events to claim this year and there are plenty left,” said John Coughlin. “My hope is that Jeggie has the same outcome as last year. If he win again this might just turn into a yearly deal for him.”

“I am really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel in Super Stock at Gateway International Raceway again this year,” explained Jeg. “I love racing, as everyone knows. I have always enjoyed running in Super Stock and the competition surrounding the NHRA Lucas Oil Sportsman Series is second to none. The opportunity to drive presented itself when my brother (John) decided to hang out at home and support his son Cody and at his last two baseball games of the season. Family is the number-one priority to us and always will be. John just said that I had to win again this year if he was going to give me the keys again. There is no pressure in that comment coming from your oldest brother. Last year we were fortunate enough to win and I would like nothing more than to accomplish the same feat. Woody (team publicist) told me that the next Coughlin who wins a NHRA national or divisional race will score the 101st victory for the family. Like I said before, no pressure.”
