Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin won the Pro Stock title at the inaugural Las Vegas event in 2000 After qualifying third, he defeated Warren Johnson in the final round. Coughlin also recorded Las Vegas victories in 2001 2002, 2008. In addition to his four wins, Coughlin also has two runner-up finishes at the Las Vegas Strip. Both of them came in 2007 at the spring and fall events.
Jeg enters this weekend’s event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway ranked second in the NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock standings following his runner-up finish at last weekend’s event in Houston. He trails leader Jason Line by just 26 points
Jeg is the reigning NHRA Pro Stock champion. He has earned four NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock titles in his career, including back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008. His other titles came in 2000 and 2002. As a sportsman racer, Jeg also captured the Super Gas championship in 1992.
In 16 career appearances at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Jeg has a 31-11 round win record in Pro Stock competition.
In four starts this year, Jeg has a win, a runner-up and two quarterfinal finishes to his credit. Jeg’s round win record thus far in 2009 is 9-3.
With 42 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock drivers. Only Warren Johnson (96), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (57) have more titles.
In 240 career Pro Stock races, Jeg has reached the final round 70 times, recording 42 wins.
Jeg has qualified in the top half of the Pro Stock field nine times in 16 races in Las Vegas including the 2007 race, where he was the low qualifier. His average qualifying position in Las Vegas is seventh.
As the reigning NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock champion, Jeg Coughlin will once again be honored with a special edition gaming chip issued by the Palms Hotel and Casino that featured his JEGS Mail Order Cobalt. He is one of just a handful of NHRA racers who have received such an honor.
Jeg is currently qualified sixth for the K&N Horsepower Challenge, a special eight-car invitational event which is held each June in Norwalk, Ohio at pays $50,000 to the champion.
