DELAWARE, Ohio – He’s been a national event winner in Pro Stock, Comp, Super Stock, Super Gas, and most recently in the new Top Dragster class, and now three-time NHRA World Champion Jeg Coughlin will attempt to claim victory in a new class; Stock Eliminator. Longtime family friend Steve Cohen recently offered Coughlin a chance to drive his ’73 Chevy Nova at the upcoming Pontiac Performance Nationals in Columbus, and the lure of winning a title in a sixth different class was too much to pass up.

“This will be my maiden voyage in Stock and hopefully it will go as well as my debut in Top Dragster,” said Coughlin, referring to the recent JEGS.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals in Belle Rose, La., where he won the Top Dragster title in his debut. “I’ll be driving a good car; a proven winner, so the big question is how well I can adapt as a driver.

The car Coughlin will be driving is owned by Cohen, and it normally driven by Rodney Johnson, who has won several race including the 2005 JEG’S All-stars in Chicago. Having never raced in Stock, Coughlin was quick to turn to reigning NHRA Stock champ Pete Biondo for some coaching.

“Stock isn’t that much different than Super Stock, but there are some subtle differences,” said Coughlin. “Stock cars aren’t fast, but they require a tremendous amount of driver skill in order to be successful. I figure I’ll need all the help I can get and there’s no one who know more about Stock Eliminator than Pete. Thankfully, he was happy to give me some advice.”

Coughlin will be pulling double-duty in Columbus as he’s also planning to race in Super Comp. He will be driving the same JEG’S Mail Order dragster that he drove to the Top Dragster title in Belle Rose, last month.

“I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of success with my dragster this year so hopefully we can keep it up,” Coughlin said. “Obviously this is a big race for us since National Trail Raceway is our home track. We’re going to have a lot of our associates at JEG’S Mail Order out here this weekend cheering us on and we’re also hosting a group of cancer survivors in our suite. It would be great if we could put one of our cars in the winner’s circle.”
