Friday Qualifying Summary
In the opening qualifying session Jeg laid down a run of 6.819 at 203.80 mph. The two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion landed in the No. 10 position with three qualifying sessions remaining to improve his position for race day.
“We left a lot on the table in our opening run,” explained Jeg. “I felt we should have run a low 6.70 from how everything felt from the drivers seat. When we got back to the pit area and looked at the data it backed up what I thought.”
The second qualifying session was run in the early evening and gave the factory hot rods the best conditions so far this weekend. Jeg made an improved run and moved up to the No. 3 position. The JEG’S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier posted an improved run of 6.745 at 204.73 mph.
“What we learned in the first session helped us to improve during the second session and will continue to help us for the rest of the weekend,” said Jeg. “The car launched and made a slight move toward the center line in the right lane. I pulled second gear a little early to settle the car down and the car took off like a rocket.”
There are two scheduled qualifying sessions tomorrow (Saturday). They are at 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM respectively. The morning session historically has had the best conditions of the weekend year-after-year.
