Race Day Summary
The Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier driven by Jeg Coughlin, Jr started race day from the No. 7 qualifying position. The two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion extended his active qualifying streak to 42 events, which leads the class.
In the opening round Jeg Coughlin faced off against Warren Johnson. Lane choice went to Coughlin and he took the preferred left lane.
Jeg left the line first by .049 seconds (.043 to .092). The Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier made a hard move toward the wall and Jeg quickly drove the car back to the center of the groove. The 45-time NHRA national event winner ran a 6.881 at 199.94 mph.
In the second round Jeg lined up next to Jason Line. Lane choice went to Line and Jeg rolled into the right lane. Line grabbed the advantage off of the line. Jeg encountered problems in the first 60-feet and was forced to shut off.
“We had a valve stem go bad in the first round and we are still trying to figure out what type of a malfunction we had in the second round,” said Coughlin. “We will head back to the shop and go through every inch of this Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier and come out swinging at the next race in Atlanta.”

Jeg earned 53 points at the NHRA O’Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Castrol. He will enter the seventh race of 2004 NHRA season in the No. 4 position in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship. Jeg has a total of 365 points with 17 races remaining. The next event is the NHRA SummitRacing Southern Nationals presented by Pontiac in Atlanta, GA. May 13-16th.
