Team JEG’S – Pro Stock
Jeg Coughlin
Pre Race Summary

Jeg Coughlin, Jr will once again return to a track where he has stood holding the “Wally” at the end of the day. The 34-year old second-generation driver has won three-times at Gateway International Raceway in his career. The first win was in 1997 in Super Stock. In 2002 he won in Pro Stock, which was the first Pro Stock victory since the team started their in-house engine program in Pro Stock. Last year Coughlin scored in Super Stock driving his brother John’s Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier.

Coughlin has qualified in the top half of the field five times in six appearances at Gateway International Raceway including a best of third in 2000. His career record as a professional in elimination rounds is 10-5 at this event.

Gateway International Raceway is a track where the team has spent sometime testing this year. The team has tested twice at the facility. The most recent was between Chicago and Topeka.

“We have done a fair amount of testing at Gateway International Raceway over the past couple of months,” explained Coughlin. “However, you have to keep in mind that the racing surface is a little different during an NHRA national event. It’s as good as it gets after the NHRA Safety Safari has done their magic prepping the surface. We have a good baseline of where to start before the car ever comes out of the trailer and hopefully that will get us going in the right direction from the start this weekend.”

Jeg Coughlin will enter the event sitting in the No. 6 position in the NHRA POWERade points. He has 527 points and knows he needs to have a strong performance to start making a charge forward in the points.

“We know where we are and where we want to be as a team,” said Coughlin. “Everyone has been working hard to get us back to where we want to be. In 2002 we made a charge here by winning our first event of the year. It was the first of the eight wins we scored that year.”

Jeg Coughlin first won in 1997 in Super Stock at Gateway International Raceway.

Jeg Coughlin has qualified in the top half of the field five times in six appearances at Gateway Int’l Raceway including a best of third in 2000. His career record in elimination rounds here is 10-5.
