Friday Qualifying Summary
Jeg Is Looking Forward To Day Two
Jeg Coughlin ended the first of two scheduled days of qualifying looking to improve from the No. 15 position. There are two additional scheduled qualifying sessions on Saturday before the field is set for race day. The sessions are scheduled to be run at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM respectively.
In the opening qualifying session Coughlin posted a run of 6.866 at 201.46 mph and landed in the No. 14 spot to start the weekend. During the second session the 32-year old second generation driver fell just short of his earlier run. He ran 6.872 at 201.70 mph and slipped to the No. 15 position.
“In the first qualifying session we were very much on the conservative side and left a lot on the table,” stated Coughlin. “We are focusing our efforts on the tune up and getting this Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier to leave the starting line going straight. If we get this car to go straight for the first 100-feet we can make a charge and get back to the top-half of the field. I am confident that we will have a better handle on our entire effort tomorrow (Saturday).”
