Five-time drag racing champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. will join radio host Joe Castello from 7-8 p.m. ET, Tuesday, on WFO Radio (www.WFORadio.com) for “Hit The Ignition with Joe Castello.” The topic of conversation will divert from the drag strip to the 20-turn Olympic bobsled course on historic Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid N.Y., where Coughlin will be competing this weekend in the fifth annual Lucas Oil Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge presented by Whelen.
Coughlin is veteran of the fundraising event that pits stars of the NHRA against their NASCAR counterparts to raise money for the Bo-Dyn Project. In fact, he’s finished on the podium in the past, proving he’s just as good on ice as he is on the strip.
Several years ago, NASCAR legend Geoff Bodine asked designer Bob Cuneo of Chassis Dynamics in Oxford, Conn., to create made-in-America bobsleds for the United States men’s and women’s national teams. Since 2002, the Bo-Dyn effort has produced numerous Olympic and World Cup medals for the team, which once used castoff sleds from European teams.
JEGS Mail Order is a corporate sponsor of the event and Coughlin has his own bobsled decorated in the familiar yellow-and-black of the high performance parts giant.
