Jeg Coughlin
Friday Qualifying Summary

Jeg Coughlin, Jr. ended the first day of qualifying for the 8th annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals sitting in the No. 6 position.

In the opening qualifying session the two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion made a solid run to start the weekend. The yellow and black Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier posted a run of 6.780 at 203.52 mph. Coughlin landed in the No. 8 spot with three sessions remaining to improve.

“It’s always nice to start the weekend with a solid run right out of the trailer,” explained Coughlin. “These are the best conditions we have ever seen at this event. The corrected altitude was about 1625-feet above sea-level during the first qualifying session and we have a great racing surface here at Gateway International Raceway. The data from our first run will give us a strong baseline for the weekend. Now it’s our job as a team to make the most of it and continue to improve our set up. It just feels good to start the weekend going in the right direction.”

In the second qualifying session Coughlin laid down a run of 6.745 at 204.42 mph. The run was an improvement and he moved to the No. 6 position.

“We have more left in this Jeg’s machine,” commented Coughlin. “The car hit the wheelie bars pretty hard and unloaded the chassis at the two-three gear change. I know that hurt us down track. Tomorrow we will address that opportunity and continue to march forward.”
