Jeg Coughlin – JEG’S Mail Order / Mopar – Dodge Stratus RT
Pre Race Release

Coming off his second final four finish of the season, Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin is extremely anxious to return to cockpit of his Jeg’s Mail Order Dodge Stratus R/T for this weekend’s 18th annual Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway. The 45-time national event winner is riding a wave of excitement following a very consistent performance weekend in the Pacific Northwest.

“I sat down and did the math and every run we made in Seattle, when you adjust what they would have been at sea-level, were between 6.66 and 6.68 seconds,” Coughlin said. “The best run of the weekend by another team corrected to 6.61, and on race day the best runs corrected to 6.64 seconds so we are certainly getting very close to where we want to be with out racecar.

“The best part for us was having that consistency. We’ve been talking about it all year and now Bob [Glidden, crew chief] has really dialed in the car to a point where we’re just fine-tuning things. It’s exciting. The only bummer of the weekend was my driving.”

Coughlin is referring to the holeshot semifinal loss he suffered against Ron Krisher. Widely regarded as one of the best drivers in the class, Coughlin had a slight hiccup against Krisher and missed his chance to advance to his second final of the year when Krisher’s superior reaction time allowed his slower elapsed time to turn on the win light.

“It happens from time to time,” Coughlin said. “We did make some adjustments for that track because it’s so slick and you want the car to get up on the tires quicker to get some early momentum but there are no excuses, I just need to do better this weekend. It’s another reason why I’m anxious to race again. Three-in-a-row races can wear you out but the cool part is it allows you to get in a rhythm. The guys are in a rhythm with the car. Now I need to get myself in a rhythm behind the wheel.”
