Team JEG’S – Pro Stock
Jeg Coughlin
Saturday Qualifying Summary

Jeg Coughlin started the final day of qualifying needing to break into the quick-16 from the No. 21 position.

In the third qualifying session Coughlin posted a run of 6.941 at 198.96 mph. The run was an improvement and he remained in the No. 21 spot.

Coughlin went into the final qualifying session on the outside looking in and with his qualifying streak in jeopardy. The two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion entered the event holding the longest active qualifying streak in Pro Stock at 44 straight events. The last race he failed to qualify at was in 2002 at the first of two races held annually at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL.

The Jeg’s Mail Order Chevrolet laid down a respectable run of 6.958 at 198.35 mph. It was the 14th quickest run of the session. However, it was short and he stayed the No. 21 position.

“We made some bad decisions yesterday as a group during qualifying and we just got behind the eight ball,” said Coughlin. “This class is a game of inches and we came up short today. We will be taking my car straight to Jerry Bickel’s shop to have some unscheduled repairs made. Our group will just pick up the pieces, lick our wounds and be ready in Columbus.”
