NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series
NHRA Summit Racing Nationals
Las Vegas, NV
April 1-4th
Team JEG’S – Pro Stock
Jeg Coughlin
Pre Race
Pro Stock standout Jeg Coughlin, Jr once again showed why you never count him out to be a threat on race day. The two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion posted his best finish to date by scoring a runner-up finish at the last event. Jeg moved up two spots to land in the No. 4 position in the 2004 NHRA POWERade championship standing after three events.
“We had a productive weekend at the Mac Tools Gatornationals and now we need to build on the momentum we created at the last race,” said Jeg. “Our program is going in the right direction after jumping over a couple of bumps in the road. We have shown strength during qualifying at each race and we were able to translate that into round wins in Gainesville. Going forward we need to string some races like Gainesville together and keep moving upward.”
The 33-year old second generation driver holds the longest active qualifying streak in NHRA’s most competitive professional class at 39 straight events. The last race Jeg failed to qualifying at was in 2002 at the first of two races held annually at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL.
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a place where Jeg has had success. He has qualified all four times the event has been held and has been the driver holding the “Wally” at the end of the day on Sunday. The wins he scored were back-to-back (2000 & 2001).
“Las Vegas is a town filled with excitement and entertainment,” explained Jeg. “Having a first class facility like The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is powerful for our sport. It’s another great example of the direction our sport is headed. Winning on a stage like this makes winning even more special.”
