DELAWARE, Ohio (March 31) — The United States Auto Club (USAC) racing series returns to Columbus Motor Speedway after a three year absence this weekend when locally-based mail order giant JEGS High Performance present the JEGS Crown Midget Super Nationals.

Saturday and Sunday’s action will feature three different styles of racing. On Saturday morning, the youngsters and their .25 Midgets will take to CMS’s 1/20-mile oval, while the big boys and girls in both the National Midgets and Midwest Ford Focus Midgets will attack the 1/3-mile track Saturday night. On Sunday, the little ones in the .25 Midgets will be back for another full round of racing at the 1/20-mile track.

This weekend’s race will actually mark the 23rd time USAC has held an event at CMS but the first time since 2006. Having JEGS in the equation certainly helped the event happen.

“We are extremely excited about this weekend’s JEGS Crown Midget Super Nationals at Columbus Motor Speedway and expect the competition to be intense,” said USAC President/CEO Kevin Miller. “We are very pleased to partner with JEGS in this endeavor and sincerely appreciate their commitment to our sport.

“This weekend created a great opportunity for us to partner the .25 Midgets with our National Midget Series for the first time. The action should be non-stop on the track’s two ovals and the area’s race fans are in for a memorable weekend.”

Fans will have the chance to visit the pit area, see the racecars up close, and get autographs from the drivers in a special two-hour open house from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday. Call 317-247-5151 for ticket information.

“We’re very excited to reach out to the USAC fans and to bring this event to our hometown,” said Scott Woodruff, JEGS Director of Media and Motorsports. “Of course, we carry products for all forms of racing and it’s always been important to us to give back to the racers and fans that support our company.

“We have our own .25 Midget racer in the family, Cody Coughlin, who just won his first race a few weeks back. Hopefully, this is the start of a long and rewarding relationship with Kevin and USAC.”

The racers are certainly excited to be returning to Columbus.

“CMS can be a real racey track,” said National Midget point leader Darren Hagen. “It depends on the day. I had never led a pavement Midget race until the 2005 race at CMS but a tangle while leading sent me to the back and I had to work my way back up.

“It’s nice to be leading the standings but it’s a long season and we’ll see where we are a bit later. I have an unbelievable team. They work together well, have a lot of confidence, and a positive attitude. That reflects in our performances, so it should be fun.”

Prior to the event, local fans can see the Kasey Kahne-owned team car driven by Brad Sweet from noon-4 p.m., Thursday, at the JEGS retail location at 751 E. 11th Avenue.

Additionally, the Tony Stewart Racing team cars of Tracy Hines and Levi Jones will be on display from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, at Bob McDorman Chevrolet on Gender Road in Canal Winchester, Ohio.
