BRISTOL, Tenn. (Wednesday, May 7, 2008) – One of the region’s most successful golf tournaments has a new partner as JEGS High Performance has joined the Bristol Dragway team for the JEGS Fifth Annual Celebrity Golf Benefit set for May 15 at the Country Club of Bristol.

The golf tournament, which serves as one of the major fundraisers for the Bristol chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, has raised more than $100,000 over the past four years. Over the last decade, the Bristol chapter of the non-profit organization, has raised in excess of $4 million for children’s agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

Jeg Coughlin, driver of the JEGS.com Pro Stock ride and the defending champion of the O’Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals coming up May 16-18 in Thunder Valley, is happy that his family business could be part of the Bristol Dragway Golf Benefit.

“We’re very proud to be associated with this golf tournament because it’s always been such a big success and because it benefits such a wonderful charity,” said Coughlin. “Speedway Children’s Charities has raised more than $4 million for kids in this area and JEGS is very excited to be part of such a worthy cause. Hopefully, this will be the best tournament yet and we’ll be able to up that total this year.”

Coughlin will take part in the tournament, along with a number of other NHRA stars, including Tony Schumacher, Rod Fuller, Bob Vandergriff, Allen Johnson, Melanie Troxel, Mike Neff, Dave Connolly, Tom Hammonds, Justin Humphreys, Richie Stevens, Dave Grubnic, Hillary Will, Doug Herbert, Morgan Lucas and J.R. Todd.

Claudia Byrd, director of the Bristol chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, is elated to welcome JEGS to the Bristol team.

“We’re deeply appreciative of JEGS coming on board as sponsor of the golf tournament,” said Byrd. “We’ve been very fortunate through the years to have some truly outstanding partners who have been very supportive of Speedway Children’s Charities. Without them, without good people like those at JEGS, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do and help the number of kids we’ve been able to help.”

The tournament begins with registration at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Panera Bread Putting Contest at 11 a.m. and lunch at 11:30, provided by BAE Systems. Play begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
