>>> Fans attending this year’s 26th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals could witness a special piece of drag racing history should Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin Jr. manage to drive his JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt to Brainerd International Raceway’s winner’s circle for the fourth time. Coughlin is one win away from 50 career victories, a plateau that just 10 men have reached in 56 years of organized competition.
“It’s hard to fathom,” Coughlin said of the 50-win mark. “You go along doing what you love to do and you never really think about the cumulative totals you’ve amassed and then one day someone says you’re on the brink of 50 wins and it just kind of knocks you off your feet. I feel very lucky and honored to be in this position at all.”
>>> There has been a buzz in the air at JEGS headquarters this past week after Mike Coughlin took the Top Sportsman title at the Division 3 race at National Trail Raceway. Coughlin qualified eighth in the field and then drove to five round wins on race day, finishing with an almost perfect reaction time in his final round victory over Ronnie Proctor of Harper’s Ferry, W.V.
“My car ran well all weekend and I managed to do what I needed to do as a driver, especially in the final round,” said Mike, who reclaimed the points lead with the win. “There’s still some work to be done in order to win the championship, but this weekend was a big help.”
>>> Since the second race of 2007, JEGS.com/Speedco short track racer Gary St. Amant has carried the No. 1 designation in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Northern Division points standings. Now the two-time ASA world champion will try to hold onto his ranking for the final race of the regular season Aug. 11 at South Boston Speedway to claim his first USAR divisional title and enter the five-race title chase with a 25-point lead in the championship series.
“This is what we’ve been racing for,” St. Amant said. “It’s time to clinch this deal and head into the Championship Series with as much momentum as possible. Hopefully, we can bring home that Northern Division title for JEGS.com.”
>>> Team JEGS chef Nicky Morse has prepared meals for royalty, distinguished diplomats, and Ohio’s ultra wealthy at the only four-star restaurant in Columbus. He’s cooked for country music’s brightest stars as part of the support crew for CMT’s “Showcase” program. He’s mentored young apprentices at Ohio State University, and worked elbow-to-elbow with Wolfgang Puck to raise money for cancer research.
Now motorsport’s most decorated chef has opened his personal cookbook to race fans and members of the media by featuring one of his creations each week of the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. Complete with step-by-step instructions, Morse divulges a complete recipe on teamjegs.com and NHRA.com that allows budding cooks a chance to create a masterpiece of their own at home.
For this weekend’s event in Brainerd, Minn., Chef Nicky reveals Hoisin Glazed Pork Loin. “I really like this recipe because it is a fairly easy and fast, but the flavor seems like you cooked all day,” Morse said.
