>>> Three of Jeg Coughlin Jr.’s 47 national event victories have come at Gateway International Raceway. Coughlin won the Pro Stock title here in 2002 during his second championship charge in the factory hot rod class. He also won Super Stock here in 1997 and 2003.
>>> Jeg Coughlin Jr. moved up to third place at last weekend’s race in Atlanta. He now finds himself less than a round behind second-place runner Jason Line, the defending POWERade world champion.
>>> The legacy of Team JEGS chef Nicky Morse continues to grow as media outlets around the country continue to be fascinated by drag racing’s only traveling four-star chef. Each race this year, Morse has been sharing one of his fabulous recipes with readers of NHRA.com in a special section entitled “Quarter-mile Cuisine.” For St. Louis, Morse has developed a St. Louis Smoothie made with POWERade, the official beverage and title sponsor of NHRA drag racing. Click on the “Features” button on NHRA.com’s home page and then select “Quarter-mile Cuisine” for the recipe.
>>> Currently third in the USAR (United Speed Alliance Racing) Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division standings, Team JEGS stock car racer Gary St. Amant will try to move up a notch of two at Shenandoah Speedway Thursday night when he lines his No. 7 JEGS.com/Speedco Chevrolet Monte Carlo up against the best short-track racers in the country at the storied Virginia track. The two-time ASA (American Speed Association) world champion is chasing his first USAR title this year.
>>> The St. Louis race will be contested much earlier in the year than ever before thanks to a shuffling of national events in the NHRA schedule. The long, hot days at Gateway International Raceway are a thing of the past as the schedule of events returns to traditional hours this time through. Coughlin will have four qualifying attempts beginning at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Friday and continuing at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
>>> Watch for all the action from St. Louis on ESPN2. Qualifying highlights will be shown from 5-7 p.m. EDT Saturday, with eliminations airing from 7-10 p.m. Sunday.
