>>> After spending much of the season as part of the top three in the POWERade championship standings, Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin Jr., the pilot of the JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt, enters the 20th annual O’Reilly Mid-South NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil in fifth place. Under the new Countdown to the Championship format, the top eight racers eligible for the 2007 crown were reseeded prior to the last event in Indianapolis and separated by just 10 points in the standings.
Coughlin was third at the start of the event but fell to fifth after an unlikely engine malfunction cost his first-round race against Greg Anderson. In order to advance to the Countdown to One, a two-race scramble for the top four racers in the class that begins in October in Las Vegas, Coughlin must improve his standing.
“Bottom line, we need to get back in the top four and stay there for the next three races so we’re there for the final championship push,” Coughlin said. “It all starts this weekend and I guarantee you this team is driven and prepared to make a statement.”
>>> Jeg Coughlin Jr. is a two-time champion at Memphis Motorsports Park, having won the Pro Stock title there in 2000 and 2002, the same years he won the POWERade championship in Pro Stock. Overall, Coughlin has 50 career wins and three world championships. His other world title came in Super Gas in 1992.
>>> Although he is just one of 11 racers in history to amass 50 career wins, Pro Stock racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. still has an uncanny ability to remember the circumstances around each of his successful races. One of his favorites is his Y2K Pro Stock trophy from Memphis Motorsports Park.
“I remember sharing the winner’s circle there with my brother Mike in 2000 when I won Pro Stock and he won Pro Stock Truck,” Coughlin said. “That remains a personal highlight for me.”
>>> Team JEGS chef Nicky Morse has prepared meals for royalty, distinguished diplomats, and Ohio’s ultra wealthy at the only four-star restaurant in Columbus. He’s cooked for country music’s brightest stars as part of the support crew for CMT’s “Showcase” program. He’s mentored young apprentices at Ohio State University, and worked elbow-to-elbow with Wolfgang Puck to raise money for cancer research.
Now motorsport’s most decorated chef has opened his personal cookbook to race fans and members of the media by featuring one of his creations each week of the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. Complete with step-by-step instructions, Morse divulges a complete recipe on teamjegs.com and NHRA.com that allows budding cooks a chance to create a masterpiece of their own at home.
For this weekend’s 20th annual O’Reilly Mid-South NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil, Morse shares his Pasta Piselli via The Patio. “The recipe for this week is not full of fancy ingredients, nor is it difficult to make, but it is full of love because it comes from ‘The Patio’ of my great grandparent’s house, where I first fell in love with food.”
