DELAWARE, Ohio (Feb. 27) — JEGS Mail Order will bring the exciting world of ProMod drag racing to the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series as an exhibition class for the eighth year in a row in 2008 with the JEGS ProMod Challenge. Hosting 10 events this season, the JEGS ProMod Challenge begins March 13-16 at the 39th annual ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.
“This is an exciting time for ProMod, the drivers, their sponsors, and the multitude of fans across the country and around the world,” driver and series organizer Troy Coughlin said. “We’ve seen the competition grow from a small exhibition deal in 2001 to full 16-car fields of extremely well-matched racecars in just seven years.
“We love to compete and the fans have proven to us that they appreciate our style of racing. The variety of hot rods, the different styles of powering these cars, and the colorful characters in the class make things very interesting. I always get a kick out of seeing the reaction from drivers who race in different classes who crowd the starting line to watch us race whenever we’re out there. It seems everyone likes watching our races.”
ProMod cars competing in the JEGS ProMod Challenge can be powered by superchargers, turbochargers, or nitrous oxide. Body styles are varied and include classics like Bel Airs, Sting Rays, and Barracudas as well as brand-new designs like Pontiac GXPs, Dodge Vipers, and Ford Mustangs.
JEGS ProMod Challenge races will take place during NHRA national events in Gainesville, Houston, Atlanta, St. Louis, Bristol, Englishtown, Indianapolis, Dallas, Richmond, and Las Vegas.
“Once again we’re covering the country and bringing ProMod racing to some of the best markets in the country,” said Scott Woodruff, Director of Motorsports and Marketing for JEGS. “ProMod has a great foundation and we’re hoping to build on that and take everything to a new level through aggressive marketing, media campaigns, and promotion.
“We’ll be giving everything the JEGS touch. The new trophies we’re designing are something the racers are sure to covet and the series winner will don the JEGS ProMod Crown, an actual crown that will signify the champion as the King of the Class. We’re going to have some fun with this.”
Woodruff also announced the formation of a new Web site, www.JEGSProMod.com that will keep fans up-to-date on everything happening within the JEGS ProMod Challenge. The site has been launched and will be rapidly evolving over the coming days.
