DELAWARE, OH (Aug. 8) — Budding drag racer Makenna Brown returned to her home track of National Trail Raceway last weekend, competing in both the JEGS ET Points Series and JEGS Buckeye Open. It was a triumphant return for the granddaughter of Jeg Coughlin Sr. and his wife Sue as her last trip to National Trail ended with her winning the Junior Dragster trophy.

This time Brown entered the southern Ohio speedplant fresh off her first appearance at the Eastern Conference Junior Dragster Finals at Thunder Valley Raceway in Bristol, Tenn.

“We had a good weekend, made some great runs, and I’m already looking forward to the next time we get to race,” Brown said. “Tom Stilwell and Pappy (Coughlin) had my dragster running really well. We were on our dial almost every round, and even had one perfect run of 8.900.

“The best part was racing with a Pro Tree for the very first time. I liked it a lot. It’s different than a regular full tree. In some ways it was harder because it was faster and I had to be really quick, but at the same time, once you get used to that, it was easier because it was faster — I didn’t have to wait for the bulbs to come down. It’s just bam, flash, and go!”
