COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 19, 2006 — Cory McClenathan rebounded from a slow start to register the third-quickest Top Fuel elapsed time Friday night before rain halted qualifying action for Sunday’s Pontiac Performance Nationals at National Trail Raceway.

McClenathan’s 4.523-second time at 329.50 mph in the special JEG’S Mail Order dragster was a definite improvement over his opening effort.

“That was a good lap,” he said of the No. 2 run. “Wes (Cerny, crew chief) and the guys did a great job. I think they are getting onto something good with the tune-up. I couldn’t be happier for JEG’S, Prestone and FRAM. That was a nice comeback after our first run was disqualified.

“The tires shook and then started smoking and I pedaled the car, but it moved right and hit one of the cones (between the lanes).”

JEG’S is headquartered in nearby Delaware, Ohio, and is featured on the car for this event only. The company is an associate sponsor on the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM Boost dragster.

“Our last run was a solid one. Everything looked good when the guys serviced the motor,” McClenathan said. “We hope to go out and do it again Saturday.”
