Second-generation drag racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. gave fans and fellow competitors an early glimpse of his driving prowess in 1997 when he pulled off a feat that has yet to be duplicated — winning an NHRA national event in four different categories.
Coughlin got the ball rolling in the spring when he took home the hardware in Competition Eliminator at the Fram Southern Nationals in Atlanta. He then moved to Englishtown, N.J., where he won Super Gas at the Mopar Parts Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. A pair of Super Stock wins in St. Louis and Brainerd, Minn., followed, capped by his first Pro Stock victory at the fall race in Houston.
The monumental achievement is certainly one of the highlights in Team JEGS history and worthy of remembering during the 50th anniversary of JEGS Mail Order.
