While excellent weather is forecasted for most of the event days for the 10th annual NHRA JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals this weekend at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio, several weather sources are forecasting as much as an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms on Sunday that may carry over into Monday. With that in mind NHRA officials have made the following changes to the event schedule to help ensure completion of the event this weekend.

All categories will have two qualifying runs on Friday with the start time moved up from 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. This will include a second qualifying session for Competition, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman that was originally scheduled for Saturday. All qualified fields will be set Friday for Saturday’s eliminations. The DRAW/RFC Super Eliminator Shootouts presented by Moser Engineering originally scheduled for Saturday will also be run on Friday.

There will be no time trials or qualifying runs on Saturday as eliminations in all categories will get underway at 8 a.m. with the crowning of the 10th annual JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals titles on Saturday.

The special Moser Sportsman Shootout, which features the season’s top competitors in seven different NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series sportsman classes will be held on Friday afternoon.

Class racing for Stock and Super Stock will be featured on Sunday weather permitting. In the event that class eliminations are rained out, the class winner will be determined by the lowest qualified car from Friday’s final qualifying list. In addition, the Jr. Dragster class time trial and eliminations will be run on Sunday.

National Trail Raceway is conducting a pre-event test session on Thursday as originally planned. Gates will open at 8 a.m. with the track test session running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The track will extend gate hours until 11 p.m. on Thursday for late arrivals and will be opening an hour earlier on Friday morning to better accommodate racers for the earlier start of time trials and qualifying on Friday.
