The NHRA JEGS Super Quick Series will take on a number of changes heading into the 2007, 19th annual season which gets underway with the NHRA Spring Sportsman Challenge XV at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois, March 31 and April 1. The schedule was announced at the World Drag Expo in Schaumburg, Illinois.
The nine-race 2007 series will closeout with the 16th annual NHRA Fall Classic
National Open at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, October 13 and 14. Both the opener at Gateway and the final event at Indianapolis will feature expanded 64-car fields while each of the other seven races, which are single-day events, will have traditional 32-car qualified fields.
This year’s schedule will include a double-header weekend in July with a Saturday event at Kil-Kare Dragway in Xenia, Ohio, July 21 and the next day, Sunday, July 22 a return to Tri-State Dragway in Hamilton, Ohio. The two tracks are only about an hour apart, providing a savings in travel for the large contingent of racers touring the series.
Other stops for the series will include Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., May 26; Midstate Dragway in Havana, Ill., June 2; Bunker Hill Dragstrip in Bunker Hill, Ind., August 4; Chandler Motorsports Park near Evansville, Ind., August 18; and Bluegrass Raceway Park in Owingsville, Ky., September 8.
Most notable of the changes to the competitors is that each event will offer $2,000 to win. The purse increase is made possible by the support of series sponsor JEGS High Performance who’s sponsorship of the series was recently extended through 2008. Added bonus programs including the Pit Pal Products Perfect Dial-in and Jacklyn Gebhardt Trailer Sales Bounty Hunter awards along with product contingency postings will be awarded at each event.
The series will continue to be open for full bodied cars however they will no longer receive the .20-second weight performance allowance in qualifying. All entries will qualify against the 4.50-second limit.
The JEGS Super Quick Shootout event will once again be held in conjunction with the season final at O’Reilly Raceway Park, Oct. 13. The special race-within-a-race will feature the season’s top qualifiers based on qualifying points earned at series events leading up to the Shootout. JEGS will award a $200 gift certificate to the number one qualifier at each event.
“We’re pleased to have JEGS continued commitment and support of the series and excited about the prospects of a great season of racing,” stated Division Director Jay Hullinger. “The Coughlin brothers have all participated in the series at one time or another and we sincerely appreciate their support of racing in the division on and off the track.”
