The NHRA North Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event originally scheduled at Edgewater Sports Park near Cincinnati on August 4-6 has been moved to Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis on the same weekend.

“We have been looking to add Gateway to our Lucas Oil Series schedule and the opportunity has presented itself now. The track has reorganized their schedule to make way for their first ever NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event,” said North Central division director Jay Hullinger. “The race will mark a return to the St. Louis area for Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars and the first appearance for our NHRA Dart Top Sportsman Racing Series competitors.”

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is a 44-race series competed in NHRA’s seven geographic regions where drivers in eight categories compete for valuable points leading to divisional and national championships. They also earn points toward a berth on their division’s Jeg’s Allstars team where they face off with the best drivers from NHRA’s other six divisions.

In addition to the Lucas Oil race, Gateway International Raceway hosts a variety of North Central Division events. The North Central Division’s racing season kicks off there April 1 and 2 with the NHRA Spring Sportsman Challenge XIV, a non-points National Open featuring the NHRA Jeg’s Super Quick Series, Super Stock-Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, ET brackets and Jr. Drag Racing. The facility is also home to the division’s 10th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Midwest Nationals, June 23-25, as well as the mid-season event in the 23-race NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Minutes from downtown St. Louis and in the shadow of the arch, Gateway International Raceway is located at the intersection of Interstate 55-70 and Route 203 in Madison, Ill.
