JEG’S Mail Order
Jeg Coughlin – Pro Stock
Troy Coughlin – ProMod
Friday Qualifying Summary

The Coughlin Racing duo of Jeg and Troy Coughlin finished the first day of
qualifying for the 18th annual O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by
Pennzoil feeling like they had a lot more work to do. Jeg had the better day,
racing to the No. 10 qualifying position in Pro Stock with a 6.733 at 204.60
mph, while Troy slipped out of the 16-car Pro Mod field to the first alternate
spot after a best of just 6.882 seconds at 132.87 mph.

Jeg will have two more chances Saturday to improve his standing, with Pro Stock
qualifying sessions scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Troy is down to one
shot, with the Pro Mod crowd running their third and final time trail at 1:30
p.m.

“We moved up from lucky No. 13 to No. 10 at the end of the day so we are fairly
happy with our performance,” Jeg said. “The track was quite a bit different when
the sun was up and it was 127 degrees on the surface to the evening round when
it was below 100 degrees and dropping.

“The good news is that we got some real good data today and Bob [Glidden, crew
chief] and the boys say there’s plenty more in this old Dodge so we’ll do our
best to improve tomorrow and get set for race day.”

Troy was solidly in the field in the 11th position after Round 1 but his Ford
Mustang was too hard to tame in the later round and he could only slightly
improve on his previously posted time.

“We’re a new team and I’m a new driver in this class but this is the car that
won the championship last year so we know it’s capable,” Troy said. “We expect
more and we definitely want to race to our capabilities. The pressure is on to a
certain extent because we’re not in the field and we’re down to one qualifying
session but I have complete confidence in this Jeg’s Mail order team.”
