Seeking a Win in Indy
Cody Coughlin has had strong performances at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana before. He won the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship in 2013, and that year saw his best finish at the famous half-mile oval when he finished second.
Coughlin wants to win at Lucas Oil Raceway badly, because winning in the city of Indianapolis is special no matter what track and what car. While he didn't score a win the last time he raced at Lucas Oil, Coughlin was the show for the second half of the race. Coughlin rallied from a flat tire to charge through the field to an impressive third-place finish.
Coughlin's Always Strong in Circle City
The Coughlin family has fared well in the Circle City throughout the years, especially at Lucas Oil Raceway. Sitting adjacent to the circle track is the drag strip that plays host to the NHRA U.S. Nationals every year. In fact, the Coughlin family has won many events on the dragstrip, including three US Nationals titles.
But no Coughlin has ever won on the circle track at Lucas Oil Raceway. Coughlin could be the first to do that if he takes the checkered flag at the end of 100 laps on Sunday afternoon.
Season of Success
In six ARCA/CRA Super Series starts this year, the 19-year-old driver has finished in the top five in half of them. He's scored a top-10 finish in five of them. His best finish this season has been third, twice, once at the fast high-banked oval of Winchester Speedway, and his last visit at Lucas Oil Raceway.
Coughlin has also scored two top-fives and three top-10 finishes in ARCA Racing Series competition. The 19 year-old also took the next step on his journey to the top of stock car racing by making two starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Last Time Out
Coughlin's last race came on September 13 at his home race track of Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio. Coughlin started eighth and finished seventh after an early race pitstop forced him to the rear of the field. It was the sixth ARCA/CRA Super Series race of the year for Coughlin.
