Jeg Coughlin enters this weekend’s United Association NHRA Super Nationals in Englishtown on a high note after winning last weekend’s NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock event in Joliet, Ill. Jeg beat Mike Edwards in the final round and currently enjoys a 93-point lead over second-place Edwards in the points standings.
Jeg is off to one of the best starts of his career in 2009, having won four of the first ten races. In addition to his victories in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Madison, and Joliet, he was also a runner-up in Atlanta and Houston.
Jeg has won 28 of a possible 40 eliminations rounds thus far in 2009 and is one of just two NHRA pros, along with Top Fuel driver Antron Brown, without a first-round loss this season.
Jeg has won two Pro Stock titles in Englishtown. He won in his first trip to the facility in 1998, defeating Mike Edwards in the final round and he won again in 2000, stopping Greg Anderson. In addition to his two wins, Jeg was also a runner-up in 2002 and 2007.
With 45 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock drivers. Only Warren Johnson (96), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (57) have more titles.
Jeg is the reigning NHRA Pro Stock champion. He has earned four NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock titles in his career, including back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008. His other titles came in 2000 and 2002. As a sportsman racer, Jeg also captured the Super Gas championship in 1992.
In 10 career appearances at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Jeg has a round win record of 19-8 in Pro Stock competition.
Jeg has beaten 14 different drivers in Englishtown including two wins against Warren Johnson and two against Kurt Johnson.
As a sportsman racer, Jeg won the Super Gas title at the 1997 Englishtown race. That season, Jeg set an NHRA record by winning national events in four different classes; Super Gas, Super Stock, Comp, and Pro Stock.
Jeg has qualified in the top half of the Pro Stock field seven times in Englishtown, including the 2000 event where he was the low qualifier. His average qualifying position in Englishtown is No. 6. Jeg has qualified No. 1 15 times in his career.
In 246 career Pro Stock races, Jeg has reached the final round 74 times, recording 45 wins. Including his 13 sportsman victories, Jeg has won a total of 58 times, good for tenth place on NHRA’s all time wins list.
Jeg is currently ranked No. 6 in the K&N Horsepower Challenge standings. The K&N Challenge is a special event that will take place in Norwalk, Ohio on June 27. It is a special $50,000 to win event that is open only to the top eight Pro Stock racers based on their qualifying performance over the previous year.
