CECIL, Ga. (April 13) – Racing kicked off toady at South Georgia Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series with David Eaton of Merritt Island, Fla., taking the top spot in Comp Eliminator with a pass of 6.843 seconds. Sorrento, Fla., resident Glen Treadwell and Tim Freeman of Roan Mountain, Tenn., follow in the No. 2 and 3 spots respectively.

Charles Cullotto clocked in at 196.22 mph in 6.955 seconds to lead the Mid-State RV Top Dragster class while Jim Harrington is No. 1 in the Trac Star System Satellites Top Sportsman class running 6.875 seconds, 203.43 mph. Cullotto is followed by Kurt Damron running 6.998 seconds at 191.40 mph and Ronnie Davis of Commerce, Ga., is No. 2 in Top Sportsman with a 6.887 second, 203.06 mph pass.

In Super Stock, Bobby Dennis put his ’91 Calais on top with a pass of 10.724 seconds. Dennis of Shorter, Ala., is followed by John Coughlin and his ’07 Cobalt out of Delaware, Ohio, and Don Barber in the third spot out of Hohenwald, Tenn.

Joining the rest of the top qualifiers is Mike Welfel in Stock Eliminator with a run of 11.01 seconds in his ’69 Camaro. Douglasville, Ga., racer Wayne Shaw put his ’83 Malibu Wagon in second with an 11.834 second lap. Eric Wingo landed in third and David Toren of Canton, Ga., in fourth.

This weekend’s event also marks the final event to score points for the NHRA Southeast Division Jegs Allstar Team. The Jegs Allstars pits the best of the best from each of the NHRA’s seven divisions in head to head competition for a share of the $100,000 purse at the CarQuest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, June 9th.

Southeast Division racers already locked into this year’s team are Aaron Olivarez, Top Alcohol Dragster; Jay Payne, Top Alcohol Funny Car; and Larry Pritchett, Comp Eliminator. Those currently leading the points in their class and looking to hold on and make the team include Emory Pierpont, Super Stock; Mickey Whaley, Stock; Scot LaMar, Super Comp; Sherman Adcock Jr., Super Gas; and Kevin Mac Nicol, Super Street.
