BRISTOL, Tenn. (May 14) — NASCAR great Randy LaJoie will be the special guest of four-time NHRA champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. at this weekend’s eighth annual O’Reilly Thunder Valley NHRA Nationals at Bristol Dragway. The longtime round-track racer and Coughlin became fast friends in January at the third annual Chevy Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge in Lake Placid, N.Y., when they raced against one another in the charity event. They’ve kept in contact ever since.

“We’re thrilled to have Randy stop by for a visit,” Coughlin said. “It’s not very often that our schedules match up but his son is racing over at the round track this weekend so he made time to come over and visit this Friday. It will be fun to show him some Pro Stock racing.”

Coughlin also plans to pick LaJoie’s brain about the quickest way around Bristol Motor Speedway. The 52-time national event winner is competing in a Street Stock race Saturday night.

“I’m hoping he can coach me,” Coughlin said. “He’s been around that track a time or two so I’ll certainly soak up everything he says. It’s going to be fun to have him here. The guy is a crack-up. You’re usually laughing the whole time you’re with Randy.”
